MusiCan, a registered non-profit approved by NYC’s Department of Education, brings music lessons to schoolchildren in New York’s economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Hey Joe Guitar not only donates $5 from its every lesson to MusiCan, but it also “contributes” its own teachers. As a result, each year hundreds of underprivileged kids experience the joy of participating in a music program.
“If a child hears fine music from the day of his birth and learns to play it himself, he develops sensitivity, discipline, and endurance.”
Music educator Shinichi Suzuki
We at MusiCan believe – and numerous studies have confirmed it – that music programs enhance the youngsters’ overall educational experience, foster their creativity, academic, social, and emotional growth, and, as Suzuki said, discipline, endurance, and sensitivity.
Unfortunately, far too many New York children have no opportunity to be exposed to music – and that is where MusiCan comes in.
We believe that MusiCan is making a positive and meaningful impact on the lives of hundreds of NYC’s underprivileged youngsters. The feedback we receive inspires us to continue our mission.
